A motivational and transformational leader, Dr. Fern Espino is an international consultant to public companies, governmental agencies, and non-profit organizations, coaching executives and entrepreneurs in leadership development, business strategy and business plan development. Bicultural and multilingual, she has broad leadership experience in business, higher education, and non-profit organizations, and is a sought-after motivational speaker and fundraiser. Dr. Espino is widely recognized as a results-oriented change agent who emphasizes organizational and financial soundness and teamwork, and she truly believes that people are an organization's most valuable asset.
In 1992, Dr. Espino founded Bronze Enterprises, specializing in human resources development. In 2000, she renamed the firm Espino Enterprises, Inc. to focus on coaching CEOs and entrepreneurs on business strategy and business plan development.
In 2002, Dr. Espino took a 2-year hiatus from Espino Enterprises to become Partner / Director at SPANUSA Inc., where she led a team conducting global bilingual executive recruitment.
From 1994 to 2000, Dr. Espino was President and CEO of Command Inc., a computer software training, development and applications firm that successfully trained thousands in technical software, office suite software and operating systems. The company developed specialized training programs for General Motors and Chrysler, and negotiated training contracts with Ford Motor Company. In her six-year ownership of Command Inc., Dr. Espino grew the company's business revenue by 50 percent.
Before going in to business for herself, Dr. Espino spent more than a decade in higher education. From 1983 to 1992, Dr. Espino served as Dean of Student Development at the GMI Engineering & Management Institute in Flint, where she was responsible for an $8 million budget and staff of 40, overseeing Student Activities and Services, Financial Aid, Student Housing, Food Services, Health Center, and Campus Security.
From 1976 to 1980, Dr. Espino was Dean of College and Financial Services at College of the Mainland in Texas City, Texas, where she directed a $16 million budget and 95-member staff, directing all college operations including the physical plant, business office, personnel and computer center, and security.
Dr. Espino serves on a variety of local, regional, and national boards, including the Detroit Regional Chamber Board of Directors, Michigan Opera Theatre Board of Trustees, the International Visitors Council of Metropolitan Detroit, the Mexicantown Community Development Corporation Board of Directors, and she is currently chair of the National Hispanic Media Coalition. She has served on the National Hispanic Leadership Institute Board of Directors and the Advisory Board to the Journal of Hispanic Policy at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.
Dr. Espino was the recipient of the Distinguished Leadership Award from the National Association of Community Leadership, and was named among the Top 100 Influential Hispanics in America by Hispanic Business Magazine. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Who's Who Among Women Executives.
Dr. Espino earned a Ph.D. and M.A. in French, and a B.A. Liberal Arts from the University of Arizona in Tucson, and completed postdoctoral studies at the John F. Kennedy School of Government and the Institute for Educational Management, Harvard University.
